Resorts

Tibau do Sul

This relatively new concept arrived in Brazil two decades ago. Until then no-one had even heard of resorts. Gradually, with the development of the country, the arrival of economic and social stability and new investments, and improved education and professional qualifications in the area, the appearance of resorts was inevitable. Especially considering that Brazil with its huge dimensions and wide spaces was ideal for this type of hotel tourism that requires open waters, recreational facilities, clubs and spas.
Born from the concept of offering leisure with health, sports, culture and ecology, resorts quickly became popular with the internal tourist market. As they were located in scenically and culturally privileged areas of the country they also became sought after by foreign tourists, thus justifying the increasing number of charter flights and tourist packages and confirming the importance of this form of tourism in the country.

The greatest number of resorts is in the north-east of the country, and this number continues to increase. New resorts with investment of nearly two billion dollars, are under construction in the state of Ceará, in Barra de São Miguel, Praia do Francês and Maragogi in the state of Alagoas; in Pipa and Extremoz in the state of Rio Grande do Norte; and in Maria Farinha in the state of Pernambuco.

All of these follow norms that have become standard in this type of tourism: they are built in exotic, relatively unknown locations with an obvious ecological appeal; they offer various cultural activities (local crafts, painting, therapies etc.); they are decorated
thematically or according to local customs and they all encompass wide open spaces.
