Alagoas

Alagoas Maceio

One of the best places to visit in the North East of Brazil.
The capital of Alagoas is Maceió, a very pleasant and relaxed modern city with its emerald easy sea and charming beaches. For the colonial experience you have to be at Penedo along the river Rio São Francisco.
Driving along the coast you will see many fishing villages with fantastic palm beaches. Between the fishing towns it is easy to travel by local busses which drive from North to the South along the coast.

Capital City: Maceió

Located between Aracaju (290 km) and Recife (260 km)
Besides the small historical part of the city, which is also the most commercial part, Maceió will give you a modern feeling. Over the last years tourists have found this region because of the splendid beaches and sea in specific between Ponta Verde and Praia de Jatiúca

Tourist Information

At the Pajucara beach you will find an information center at Ave. Dr Antonio Gouveia 1143, it has a lot of info such as hotels, transportation and restaurants. Information you can also find at the busstation or the airport.

Beaches

Maceió has loads of bars and beach activities
Best beaches protected by coral reefs are located at the North side starting about 5 km from the city center. Beaches like Ponta Verde, Jatiúca, Jacarecica, Guaxuma, Garca Torta, Riacho Doce and Pratagi
Remind that in the weekends and summer season these beaches can be crowded because of the cruise ships and locals
The most dirty beaches are Praia do Sobral and Avenida and the others, Praia dos Sete Coqueiros and Praia de Pajucara sometimes too.

Boat Tours

Daily you can join Schooner-trips wth starting point at Pontal da Barra. The trips take about 5 hours to islands and beaches. Most with lunch included.

Events

The biggest event in Maceió is the Maceió Fest from December 7 to 10. Lost of samba :)

How to get there

By air with Air Maceió from Rio Sao Paulo, Brasilia with VASP and Varig.
By bus from all nearby cities even Salvador and Rio de Janeiro from which the last one is a more than 2200 trip for about 36 hours.
